How to Choose the Right Recorder for Daycare
🤝 In collaboration with child safety experts
Why the right recorder matters
The recorder you choose directly affects audio quality — and how confident you'll feel about what you hear back.
Many parents borrow a device or use whatever's available. But staff changes, room dynamics shift, and your child's experience is unique. Recording regularly — with the right device — is how you stay genuinely informed.
What we recommend
We recommend the Q1 with 8GB capacity — compact, discreet, and capable of up to 10 hours of continuous recording on a single charge.

- USB charging — and only charges when powered off.
- Don't charge overnight. Overcharging shortens battery life.
- Buy from a trusted source to ensure an authentic unit.
- Battery should last a full daycare day — 8+ hours continuous.
- Files should save in MP3 or WAV format for easy playback and Kinderguard upload.
Before your first recording
- Charge fully until the indicator light turns blue.
- Turn it on once hidden and secured (see our placement guide).
- At the start of the recording, say out loud: "Today is [date], [daycare name] in [city], time is [exact time]."
A few things to keep in mind
- The device's internal clock isn't always accurate — don't rely on it for timestamps.
- Always transfer files to a computer (not your phone), and clear old recordings from the device folder before reuse.
